Bernie Sanders has always been on the right side of cannabis legalization. He has always vowed to legalize cannabis if elected president. But now his campaign claims that Bernie will be directing the Justice Department to reclassify cannabis on executive order on the first day of his presidency.
Last year, Bernie’s campaign release a cannabis policy plan that said he would instruct his Attorney General, Drug Enforcement Administration Administrator and Health and Human Services secretary to collaborate to end the drug war. Once the Attorney General is confirmed, Sanders pledged to use executive action to federally descheduled cannabis within 100 days.
Following the executive action, he said he world work on expunging records for those with prior cannabis convictions, revitalize the clemency process and then reinvest tax revenue from marijuana sales into communities targeted by the drug war.
