11 Nov Is CBD Safe for Kids?
Ok! Is CBD safe for kids? The answer to that question is undoubtedly a big “YES”. Nobody has ever gotten sick or died from cannabis and hemp and we dare you to prove differently. Not to mention, if you are concerned about kids getting “high”, CBD is in fact non-intoxicating.
Another way to answer that question is… “As opposed to what?” If you are asking if CBD is safer than pain, anxiety, or say epilepsy medicine then the answer would be that those medicines are some of the most toxic medicines you can put in your body. And, unlike CBD, they will get your kid “high”. Most of the medicines that fit in the categories described above are very intoxicating.
In recent times the conversation about CBD has seemed to shift. Truth is a lack of regulations has caused many people to have a poor or misguided experience when it comes to the cannabinoid.
CBD First Become Popular Cause it is Safe for Kids
CBD first became popular by the CNN documentary called Weeds by Sanjay Gupta. The documentary claimed, a little girl named Charlotte Figi was given an oil made of concentrated CBD. She suffered from a rare seizure disorder and the documentary made the claim that CBD was helping to dramatically reduce her seizures.
Recently CBD was legalized by federal law by the 2018 Farm Bill. What happened was a CBD craze. A frenzy. where a rush of entrepreneurs scrambled to start their own CBD line. Mostly consisting of entrepreneurs who want to start a cannabis company, instead they settled for CBD, waiting for cannabis laws to change to make it easier for small business to enter the cannabis world.
Since CBD isn’t regulated by the FDA, people were developing whatever products they wanted to. Many CBD products being improperly labeled. Some containing chemicals like kratom or melatonin. Some containing harmful chemicals like K2. Others not even containing CBD at all.
Then there is the vaping crisis. Although the CDC recently issued a statement that the crisis has been declining, there were several reports where people have come down with serious illnesses due to vaping. Nobody really knew what cause the so-called vaping crisis. Some blame additives to the liquid in the vape carts. Some blame the vape carts themselves, claiming that it is a device flaw in cartridges mass produced overseas.
So, is CBD Safe for Kids?
The answer is… again… ABSOLUTELY! What isn’t safe is greedy entrepreneurs trying to take advantage of the unregulated industry. The CBD craze itself started because it was a safer alternative than giving kids pharmaceuticals. Epilepsy medicine gets you high! Pain medicine gets you high! CBD doesn’t!
The vape crisis may have been blowing a little out of proportion and there are trusted safe brands out there that take care and pride in their product. So, if you are going to use CBD, then you are going to have to do a little research.
What Should You Look For?
- Good Reviews. The internet is full of reviews on CBD products, first thing you should do have good reviews
- Lawsuits? If the company has had legal issues in the past you can easily find that info online. If that company has wronged a customer before chances are a lawsuit was filed.
- Certificate of Analysis (COA). These are test results, done by professional labs, that show exactly what is in the product. They are normally done with High Performance Liquid Chromatography machines. There are many different things that a company can test for. They will at least test for cannabinoid profiles, this is done to ensure what the product has high levels of CBD, and low levels of THC. THC levels at least must be done to show that the product is legal for sale. Look for a company that also tests for any pesticides, toxins, or residual solvents. That way you know your product is legal, safe, and doesn’t have any harmful chemicals in it.
- QR Codes. Look for products that post QR codes directly onto the bottle that leads to a COA online that matches the batch info on the product.
