18 Jan Medical Marijuana Might Cause Florida Teacher and Veteran to Lose Job
A Marion County teacher is struggling to keep his job after failing a drug test. Michael Hickman tested positive for marijuana after taking a required drug test due to a worker’s comp claim due to an injury caused by breaking up a fight.
Hickman was a Marine that served in Desert Storm. His attorney says that Hickman suffers from PTSD and was “prescribed medical marijuana by a licensed physician according to the laws of the state of Florida.”
He was a highly regarded teacher who was recently promoted to dean at Belleview High School.
School officials claim that the teacher’s job is in question because even though it legal to take medical marijuana by Florida State law, it is illegal by federal law. The school system receives hefty grants by the federal government that fund student programs.
Hickman has been suspended without pay, for now!
He’s currently fighting for his job and has hired an attorney for an upcoming hearing.
Chillum Glass Gallery and CBD Dispensary is not a Medical Marijuana Treatment Center and we do not sell marijuana. Any of the products we sell are NOT for the use of cannabis and are sold for tobacco and hemp based CBD use only. That being said we are advocates for reform and are happy to report anything happening in the movement.
