09 Dec US House Will Vote on Marijuana Research Bill this Week
This is the second time this month that the US House of Representatives will vote on a cannabis reform bill. This time they will be voting to allow scientists, for the first time ever, to study cannabis from state legal cannabis dispensaries.
Congress already approved the MORE Act this past Friday, which aims to decriminalize cannabis on a federal level. This next bill is entitled the Medical Marijuana Research Act, which aims to accelerate medical cannabis research. Which, in the end, could strengthen support for broader reform.
The House is expected to vote on the new MMJ research bill as early as Wednesday. The bill has bipartisan support and is expected to pass the House, on the other hand, it will most likely have trouble getting through the Senate.
The Medical Marijuana Research Bill Would:
- Allow for the private manufacturing of cannabis solely for research purposes.
- Make it really easy for researchers to obtain cannabis. As easy as obtaining it from a local dispensary.
- Make it easier to be a “marijuana researcher”.
