What are Delta-8 THC Edibles?

What are Delta-8 THC edibles? If you haven’t visited your local hemp dispensary in a while then you might want to pop in pretty soon. CBD isn’t the only cannabinoid that hemp can provide and now Delta-8 THC products are readily available.

Some of these Delta 8 THC products come in an edible form and make a good, and legal substitute for cannabis edibles.

What is Delta-8 THC?

Delta-8 is a minor cannabinoid, occurring in both the hemp and cannabis plant in small concentrations. Delta-9 THC being the cannabinoid in cannabis that is illegal.  Delta-8 THC is distinct from Delta-9, but is an analog of Delta-9.  They are similar in structure but have some notable differences.  The main difference is Delta-8 THC tends to exhibit a lower psychotropic potency than Delta-9.

Chemical Structure of Delta 8 THC

Basically Delta 8 THC does get you stoned, but it is not as potent as it is Delta-9 cousin. Delta-8 is approximately 75% as potent as Delta-9 THC.  A good way to think about that is for every 2 hits of Delta-9 THC it takes about 3 hits of Delta-8 THC.

Another great thing about Delta-8 THC is that it is just as legal as CBD is!!!!

What are Delta 8 THC Edibles?

Since Delta-8 THC is found in small concentrations in both hemp and cannabis, it is typically used in distillate form.  Meaning, in order to get a level of Delta-8 THC that is potent enough you need to concentrate it.  This distillate can be sprayed on hemp flower for smoking or can be cooked into food for eating.

Delta-8 THC Edibles are the result of cooking this Delta-8 THC distillate into food. These edibles can be eaten just like cannabis edibles can and get you “stoned” just the same. Actually, they are remarkably similar.

Delta-8 THC Edibles can take the form of:

  • Gummies
  • Chocolates
  • Baked Goods
  • Candies
  • Beverages

Similar precautions to cannabis edibles are to be taken when eating Delta-8 THC. Leave time for them to kick in, about an hour. And bear in mind, when it comes to edibles, it is easy to over do it. Pay close attention to dosage and don’t be too quick to add more.  Take a small dose and wait an hour, at least, for it to kick in.
