16 Oct Why do People Take CBD?
CBD can do a lot of things. Some people take it because they need support for a specific reason. Others take it because they want to enhance their overall well-being. Rather than giving specific reasons as to why people take CBD, best thing to do is to understand the system in your body that interacts with it.
Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a compound found in hemp. Cannabinoids work with a receptor system found in the body called the endocannabinoid system (ECS). What does the ECS do? It regulates several different systems in the body that are responsible for things like: anti-inflammatory response, the immune system, appetite, mood, anxiety levels, sleep and more. The goal of the ECS is called homeostasis.
What is Homeostasis?
The endocannabinoid system is all about balance. It is the biological balance in all things having to do with the body. Homeostasis means that the body is operating properly, that there is an equilibrium for our overall well being. People take CBD because they want to achieve homeostasis.
Your body makes its own cannabinoids, called endocannabinoids. These endocannabinoids are naturally produced and released within the body as your body’s attempt to reach homeostasis. If you’ve experienced a runner’s high you’ve experienced the body’s natural equivalent to THC. Plants make cannabinoids too, called phytocannabinoids. CBD is one of these phytocannabinoids. When the body isn’t making enough endocannabinoids, things can go wrong. A lot of things can go wrong, the endocannabinoid system is responsible for regulating so many of the body’s functions. When there is an endocannabinoid deficiency it is possible to supplement with phytocannabinoids. This is when it is best to take CBD.
